I Am a Fine Musician: El Sistema’s Inspiration in a California School focuses on the implementation of the El Sistema music program in the Los Angeles-area and the educational theory behind its success. The 27-min. documentary features the children and teachers of Pasadena’s VYMA Music Project at Longfellow Elementary. Join us for the world premiere, including a live performance by the VYMA Concert Orchestra and Q&A with Dick Roberts and Dr. Anne Rardin, who are featured in the film. The screening is a benefit for VYMA.

I Am a Fine Musician beautifully captures the values and goals of El Sistema that have inspired over one hundred programs and thousands of musicians and educators in the US to use music as a powerful vehicle to drive social change.”—Stanford Thompson, Chairman of El Sistema USA

“The film deepens the exploration, considering how and why the intensification of musical instruction in this way seems to have such transformative impact on students and their families. I am grateful to VYMA not only for the everyday fine work of their program, but especially for this generous contribution to the music education ecosystem, so we can get better at tapping the inexhaustible power of music to transform lives.”
—Eric Booth, El Sistema expert, The Ensemble
